| In June of this year I was approached by an editor with Sybex (a division of Wiley Publications). I was asked to a Technical Editor for both Marilyn Miller-White and Paul Stork (co-author) and their book titled "MCTS Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Configuration: Study Guide 70-631". I jumped on the opportunity and was to have been chosen from a large pool of talent around the SharePoint community. To be honest I made a perfect score on both 70-630 & 70-631 and have had years of experience with small, medium, and global customers so I knew this was a good fit. A month into the project the editor contacted me and asked if I wanted to be a part of the publication as a co-author. He explained I'd need to pick up several chapters along with 100 + test questions for the CD ROM test engine. I was super excited to write and dove in right in not really knowing what I was getting myself into.
By the way this wasn't a bad experience at all but a ton of work that required non-stop concentration. Here's a fun tidbit of info on me, I'm dyslexic (diagnosed at 10 years old) and have the attention span of a black lab in a yard of squirrels.
What made this a good experience for me is the fact that I was basically able re-trained my brain to focus on demand. I was also able to master this repeatable exercise and able to apply to my day to day life. I learned I actually love to write and I guarantee you this isn't something you hear from someone who's highly technical and dyslexic. Now when I work on client documentation I like it…. Strange I know!

The book arrived from the warehouse this past week… The accomplished feeling is something I think you just have to experience. Something to think about, there isn't an MCITP track today for SharePoint but I promise it's coming soon. I can't mention anything else but I can tell you I'm already engaged in another book for Sybex ;)
Thanks for stopping in, if you're planning on taking the 70-631 make sure you pick the book up…!
I will be at a book signing at the SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas (Wiley booth). Make sure you stop in to say hi and I'll give you a free copy or we’re on Amazon
